Brew Guide: The Perfect Cafetière/ French Press

A Cafetière or French Press is a brilliant way to affordably enjoy our delicious specialty coffee. It allows you to brew full bodied, rich coffee quickly and efficiently. Our recommended recipe is below and is great if you're new to brewing coffee at home, or a true coffee veteran!

What you'll need:

  • Freshly boiled water (aim for 90-96 C or 194 - 204.8 F
  • A cafetière (French Press)
  • Coarsely ground coffee (we offer our coffee ground for Cafetière if you don't have a grinder at home!)
  • Scales (coffee is a bit of a science after all!)
  • A spoon to stir
  • A timer

Lets Brew!

  1. Measure out your coffee:
    1. Aim for about 1g of coffee per 15g of water. So for a standard 350ml cafetière that's about 23g of coffee.
    2. Add this to your cafetière with the plunger and lid removed.
  1. Add Hot water:
    1. Heat up your water.
    2. Pour evenly over the coffee your measure of water.
  1. Stir and Steep:
    1. Gently stir to make sure all your coffee is steeping in the water.
    2. Place the lid and plunger on (don"t press yet!) and leave for approximately 4 minutes.
  1. Plunge Gently
    1. Gently press the plunger down to separate the grounds at an even rate.
    2. If you have ground your coffee at home and it is hard to press, consider increasing the grind size.
  1. Pour and Enjoy!
    1. Serve immediately to avoid unnecessary extraction.
    2. Sit back, relax and enjoy your delicious cup of specialty coffee, expertly brewed by you at home!

Top Tips for an even better brew:

  • Freshly ground coffee is always something we recommend, so if you can accommodate for that even better. If not, we offer our coffee pre-ground for cafetière and filter.
  • Play around with brew time! You can make your cup of coffee truly yours by experimenting with brew times (told you coffee was a bit of a science!)
  • Don't leave your coffee sitting in the cafetière. If you don't think you can drink it all at once, decant into an insulated carafe to keep it hot and prevent over extraction.
